Work in Progress 12x12 oil by Jacki Newell

Day 6 of the 30 day painting challenge. I've painted everyday except one, but it's the sharing it on line that I'm pretty lax about. My computer was giving me trouble a few of those days. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. :)

30 in 30 days challenge!

I have joined Leslie Saeta's 30 in 30 days challenge. No, it's not a new diet, it's painting 30 days and posting them on her blog. Painting daily is nothing new for me, but posting daily is, so maybe this will get me in the habit of getting to the computer to post what I'm doing more regularly. I doubt it, but here it is for day one!!

Newest Paintings for the "Le Ville de L'Amour" Show

Last Friday night was the reception for the "Le Ville de L'Amour show. It was a great show with new work from some excellent artists. We had

Keith Davis on the piano playing jazz and adding to the enjoyment of the evening. These three paintings are my new additions for the show.

Commission of Poinsett Hotel, oil painting by Jacki Newell

At last! I have completed this painting that has been in the works for over a year. Starting with photos and sketches, then small oil painting sketches and a 16x12 piece, and many days of just drawing this out. The elipses in the fountain and the arches on the two windows on the left were killers, not to mention the horse and carriage. I used multiple photos for this and that is always a challenge to get them to look right. For example, getting the horse and carriage to be the right size compared to the fountain and awning of the building. I delivered it to my very patient clients on Saturday and was so please to see how happy they were with it. It will go above the main fireplace in the gorgeous old house they have recently moved into. I look forward to seeing it framed and hanging there. I am also looking forward to moving on to other paintings that are in my head waiting to get on my canvas. Thanks for viewing my blog. God bless, Jacki

Sunday Driver 12x12 Oil by Jacki Newell

This is a piece that I started earlier last year, but it never finished. I moved the horse closer and brightened the colors. It's like a whole new painting.

Happy 2014

Lights on Main Street

8x8 oil

It's about time I make it to my computer and post something. 2013 was a good and busy year. I was constantly working on commissions and didn't spend much time at all on painting things just for the fun of it. I think this year is going to be different and here is the first painting of 2014.

Here's a little one that I did a few weeks ago and failed to post. I love the horse and carriages on Main Street. I hope to do many more of them.

Washington and Main, delivered and hung in it's new home today

I framed this painting for my client and delivered it to his home today. Kind of amazing to both of us was that the umbrellas in the painting matched his chair cover perfectly!! I couldn't have done this as well if I would have tried. When I painted it, it was for his bedroom, but he liked it  so much, that he decided to hang it here where everyone can see it.

It's satisfying for me to see it hanging after so many hours working on it.
